In line with national efforts aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and increasing green space, and in confirmation of Jordan Islamic Bank’s institutional goals and their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the bank organized a tree-planting initiative at Al-Istiqlal Park in Shafa Badran area, to achieve the fifteenth Sustainable Development Goal “Life on Land”, in cooperation with Jordan Environment Society and Greater Amman Municipality, with the participation of a group of bank’s employees and about 120 students from different schools.
This coincides with the fourth annual Al Baraka Charity Day, organized by Al Baraka Group and its units in all the countries where it is present, which falls on the eleventh of November of each year. This is done by the employees of the Group’s units around the world with initiatives and activities centered around serving their local communities, which this year were directed to support the terrestrial environment, expand green cover, promote environmental governance, afforestation, greening areas, and preserving biodiversity. These initiatives have positively impacted national development agendas in the countries where the Group operates.
Bank employees, along with a group of school students, participated in planting silver cypress, thuja, and chinaberry trees, which are perennial evergreen trees that will contribute to increasing the oxygen level and add an aesthetic touch to the place, after reclaiming some land to expand the garden that serves the people of the region.
Dr. Hussein Said, CEO of Jordan Islamic Bank, expressed his pride in the bank's role in promoting sustainable development through its various activities throughout the year, culminating annually in November with "Baraka Day." The launch of the campaign to plant trees of specific and selected types and to encourage students to plant came to support efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development in the face of climate change and combating desertification, stressing the continuity of implementing initiatives aimed at achieving a long-term positive impact and supporting various efforts aimed at promoting sustainability.
